Purpose of Concept Arts
A Concept Art conveys a visual representation of a design or an idea before the final product is created. In other words, it aims to generate a visual design for a subject that does not yet exist.
Concept Arts are very helpful when your are beginning to create sketches of possible appearances for your original character. Always keep in mind that you DO NOT copy the exact details of the references you are looking up at.

For beginners, keep your designs simple if you are not yet ready to create complex designs. This helps you think of alternate appearances for your original characters in the future.
Keep in mind of your desired character's appearance as you start creating a few sketches. It can be very tough if you do not sketch what you have already visualized in mind, so make sure to create some rough sketches to start combining the pieces into the official look of your OC.
Examples of rough sketches are displayed below before the creator of these characters finalized their first official appearances below.

Never give up on creating your original characters. Yes, art is pain, but pain can help you learn from mistakes until you make your art shine through.
Remember to have fun while creating an original character.
