Types of Sketches
Croquis
- A Croquis (pronounced as 'krow-kee') means "sketch" in French. It refers to the quick sketching of an event or a live figure within a short time in order to capture the essential elements. The subject for this type of sketching can be an animal or children. Today, Croquis is used in fashion to indicate a quick draft of a live model, focusing on less details like the faces, hands, and feet.
Pochade
- Pochade is a type of sketch that captures the color and atmosphere of a landscape. Typically used in creating landscapes or sceneries and is usually made with oil paint. This kind of color sketch is also used by artists if they plan to create large-scale landscape paintings.
Portrait Sketch
- Basically this type of sketch is used to capture a person's character, commonly the face, whether they are giving off a cheery smile or expressing a melancholic look. Any medium can be used in this type of sketching; from pencils, to charcoal, to oil paint, to watercolor, and even acrylic paint. Portrait Sketches are worthy to become stand-alone artworks.
