Ideas before creating an Original Character
Now that you have an insight on the 'how' part of creating an OC, here are some questions you should consider before you start making concept arts and finalizing your OC.
What is their theme?
The theme is the very idea that will recur or pervade in the character's concept. It also depends on their personality, as well as their outfit which will resemble the idea of someone or something (e.g. animals, occupations such as guards or assassins, students and the likes).

Consider a fitting name
There are many things you should consider before giving a name to your original character, which makes it another difficult part if you plan to create a story about them.
- First, keep your character's age in mind while looking for suiting names. By now you should be thinking of a name like a favorite name you heard from shows or read from books.
- Always look up on the meaning of the names you have in mind before setting it as an official name for your original character. Make sure that the meaning of the names you give are relatable to the original character's qualities, personality, or background.
- The original character's name should flow well together. Preferably, short first names go well with long surnames and the other way around. Common first names and unusual last names would go together well and vice versa. Keep in mind that first names and last names must sound better, especially if you are aiming to name a unique character in a story.
- You can even make up a name for your original characters to make their names memorable, but have a good reason why you named them like that. And remember to make it understandable or give the correct pronunciation of the name if you are making a fictional story. Don't make very complicated names like X'llvkiww or Blahkvsvyu, they will lose interest in knowing the character.
- Somehow you can copy the names of famous real life or fictional characters for your original characters. If you are naming some of your original characters after real life or fictional characters, make sure you base some of their characteristics on some of the qualities that their counterparts have.
